While it is inspirational to hear stories of total recruiting monsters who single-handedly ‘ram’ hundreds of people into their teams there are some fundamental problems with their methodology:
- It is not duplicatable – sadly most of us are NOT the Michael Jordan of recruiting (and thankfully we don’t need to be.)
- It is intimidating to compare yourself to them
- Easy come easy go – if people are brought into the business by hype, the ‘gift of the gab’ and/or false promises they typically quit just as fast.
Perhaps you are like me and find the stories of regular people who battled on and never gave up to be a lot more motivating. You can relate to them on a personal level and most importantly you can put yourself in their shoes.
I believe for most of us ‘mere mortals’ great change and accomplishment is made through small steps, and consistently taking small, non-intimidating actions.
The science of this is irrefutable: small steps circumvent the brain’s built-in resistance to new behavior.
This article was put together to give you a viable road map to Network Marketing business success based on small non-threatening goals and activities that anyone with a powerful enough ‘WHY’ can commit to.
So without further ado let’s jump into…
The Awesome Power Of One
This realistic plan was designed for a person building their business on a part-time basis – with only a few hours to dedicate each week.

Our goal is simple and very clear: we are going to focus on recruiting 1 new referral each month.
That’s right – just ONE!
Do you have to stop at one?
No, but to explain this strategy we are going to demonstrate the incredible leveraged income you can achieve by sponsoring just ONE new referral and then HELPING THEM to do the same.
Now let’s discover what can happen when you apply the Awesome Power Of One to your Network Marketing business for 12 months.
1st Month: You are learning about your products and how to run your prospecting/marketing systems and you are excited about the power of creating a leveraged income. You bring in 1 new person – and effectively double the size of your business.
2nd Month: You and your new recruit from month 1 both sponsor a new referral. Your team now grows by 2 and you now have a total of 3 referrals.
3rd Month: You and your 3 referrals are understanding how to prospect and are filling your pipeline. You all bring in 1 new referral. Your sales team now totals 7 referrals
4th Month: You and your team are performing the simple prospecting actions, and each add a new referral. Your sales team now has a total of 15 people – and you only personally recruited 4.
5th Month: You and your team are persisting and refer just ONE new referral each. Your sales team now has a total of 31 people.
6th Month: You and your team are building a solid team based on small, non-intimidating goals and actions and all refer 1 more person each. Your sales team now has 63 people who all are applying a realistic success strategy for the ‘little guy.’
7th Month: The Awesome Power Of One is really starting to kick in for your business. Some of your people are becoming very comfortable marketing their business. But for this example we will stick to everybody referring just 1 new person. Your sales team now has 127 people in it.
8th Month: Things are really getting exciting for you! Your team is growing and duplicating and your commissions are growing nicely. Your team members and you each add one new referral. Your sales team now has 255 members.
9th Month: Your sales team now has 511 members and your income continues to grow.
10th Month: You and each member of your team follow the system, and your sales team now reaches 1,023 people.
11th Month: Your team now has 2,047 and depending on your company’s commission structure you should be making an income that can powerfully improve your life.

Even though the above plan is realistic, and nobody is expected to be a recruiting phenomenon, some people will drop out, and quit…maybe even you.
Maybe you were fed some B.S by your sponsor that you would be retired in the first 3 months without lifting a finger…and lost heart.
Perhaps you forgot that to get what others don’t have – you must often do things that others won’t do…
Perhaps your ‘Why’ wasn’t powerful enough for you to mentally deal with all the NO’s you got along the way…
The reality is that NO’s are a part of doing business. We all hear “no.”
Those who succeed in this business are the ones that refused to quit despite hearing ‘no.’ They kept on talking to people about their business and their products, until the eventual ‘YES’ came along.

The more positive reality is that even if you achieve 10% of this plan by the end of your 12 months you will have over 400 people on your sales team and in most quality companies this would STILL pay you a handsome extra income.
